As it shows, the administrators in the system support our superintendent, only imagine if the naysayers did :)
@knoxschoolsupt receives standing ovation from principles at the Principal’s meeting as he recap his recent contract renewal #onebigteam”
Being a Board member, I was tasked with the mega job of evaluating the Superintendent's performance over the past year. During the past year, I saved every correspondence between us. I also saved every article in the Knoxville News Sentinel, the Focus and Shopper. I spent hours upon hours tediously tying his evaluation to the Five Year Strategic Plan that drives all decision making in this school system.
Interestingly I did not receive one phone call, text, or email; nor did I have one conversation at community events or the grocery store in support of an extension on the Superintendent's contract. Note: I only received emails in support for the Superintendent about an hour before the vote from three principals.
In my one-on-one meeting with the Superintendent about his evaluation he asked about correspondence I received concerning his contract. I told him that I had NOT received any correspondence for his renewal and that the emails had started coming in at least a month out requesting that I vote NO. I also informed him that my decision would not be based only on public opinion but also with great deliberation.
As some may know the special called meeting to vote on his contract began at 5:00 p.m. and was adjourned around 9:00 p.m. with many amendments made and seconded. We tried
*to limit the contract to 2017
*to provide a one year severance package rather than a three year
*to object to the questions
But all attempts failed with a 5-4 vote on a 5-4 Board.
So now the upcoming elections are highly important. The last time the Superintendent asked for a two year contract extension he lost three school board seats in districts 6,7,and 9. Will history repeat itself? Many speaking that night asked for a “not yet” vote and were obviously unsuccessful. He can’t afford to lose three more seats. What will happen in March to district seats 2 ,3, and 5? It will certainly be interesting to watch!
